Climate Healers of Pune
Madhavi Kolte, from Pune (Maharashtra), India, has a degree in law and has had a career as a ceramic artist. She has been involved in environmental activism since her younger years, and has also integrated her sensitivity to the beauty and fragility of the natural world into her artwork, thus communicating her concerns and values to those who resist the more typical forms of activism.
Madhavi and Julie Wayne met at the beginning of 2015 at the Sanskriti Foundation’s Art Residency in New Delhi and quickly understood that Destiny had a hand in putting them in the same place at the same time (for in a country of a billion-plus people, how else would they have met?!!!).
From the moment Julie began visiting Madhavi in Pune, they began working together on trying to transform the world into one of respect, benevolence and sustainability, using art and outreach. When they discovered Climate Healers and the thoughtful work of Dr Sailesh Rao, they simultaneously had the same desire to make Climate Healers a household name. They contacted Dr. Rao who enthusiastically put them in touch with Jessica Lannine (who is the original designer of Climate Healers local groups) and very soon after, “Climate Healers of Pune” was born!
Madhavi and Julie decided to start their group with a bang: they are in the midst of organizing the “Pune Health and Sustainability Conference”, a two-day event and the first of its kind in India.
