The 86-year-old social scientist says accepting the impending end of most life on Earth might be the very thing needed to help us prolong it. In our current trajectory, Apocalypse Year ZERO (AYZ) is 2026. Accepting that would help us find ways to push AYZ out, perhaps even towards infinity. This requires us to embrace the main ideas in Mayer Hillman’s message: “Can you see everyone in a democracy volunteering to give up flying? Can you see the majority of the population becoming vegan?     We all know in our darkest corner of our soul that hillman speaks the truth, but us we humans are so disconnected from ourselves, that the little voice doesnt have a chance, we’ll just sit and pretend that the world is ok, and im ok, and we are all ok, and so on, while the kids are playing outside in the garden and grandma makes cookies for everyone, its a beautiful day we say to everyone, as we pass each other on the street. This is us and the lie we choose to live in, how we have fallen, lets lie to little babies in there cots as they sleep, if that’ll make us feel better, what a great species we are.
